This past Wednesday was Independence Day in Croatia. On October, 8th 1991 Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia, so now Croatians celebrate this day as Independence day. As it is a rather new holiday, there are not any traditions related to it, except usual speeches and retrospectives of events from that time.
This is a National Holiday and most people are given the day off.
My host family and I had tea and coffee at the neighbors in the morning. We then went to a family friends house for dinner. (at 12:30 pm) Then we went for a three hour walk along the riverside. It was just a day for relaxing and spending time with family and friends.
