Varaždin ~ Stari Grad Castle

I have walked by this Castle many times since I have been here but Thursday (Sept. 18th) was the first time I went in it.

Construction of the castle began near the end of the 13th Century and continued until the mid 19th Century. Feudal families have lived here for hundreds of years. The Castle is located located in the lowlands by the River Drava and at the edge of the Old City.

The city of Varaždin purchased the castle from the Erody Family in 1925 and turned it into the Varaždin Municipal Museum. The Museum includes a collection of around 30,000 local and foreign items. The artifacts are classified into collections such as: Insignia, Guild Items, Paintings, Sculptures, Furniture, Ceramics, Glass, Costumes and Accessories, Photographs, Metals, Weapons, Cannons, Clocks and Watches, Historic Documents, and Books. With all these Collections there was tonnes to see throughout the museum.

The Rooms of the castle were set up with artifacts in a way that they portrayed life from the Castles different Era's. Below are a few pictures from around the Castle.
