On Saturday the 7th I went to Osijek. There was a Rotary meeting and Kevin and I were offered a ride so we could spend the day exploring while the meeting took place. Rotary members in Zagreb gave Gabrielle, Emily, and Greg a ride as well. So while the Rotary members were having their meeting the five of us explored Osijek.
Here is a day in Osijek:
Osijek is the capitol of Slavonia (A geographical region in Croatia) and the fourth largest city in Croatia.

An interesting brick church on Lorenza
Jägera Street. (I don't know it's name)

Side angle of the church.

Interesting architecture.

Bullet holes - reminder of the Croatian War of Independence.

Tram coming down one of the main streets.

Main street in the Center.

Main square in the Center.

Secessionist
façade of
Osijek.
Osijek was occupied by the Habsburg Empire starting in 1687. Previously it was under Turkish Rule.

More
Secessionist architecture.

The Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul.

The church was constructed in the 1890s on the initiative of Bishop
Josip Juraj Strossmayer. He felt a Parish Church with a capacity for 3000 was what the growing town of
Osijek needed.

The Church is constructed of red brick and is in the
Neo-Gothic style.

The small
entrance to the side, the main portal isn't used.

Parts of the building are undergoing reconstruction.

Side of the Church.

Me, Emily, Greg, and Kevin standing
in front of the Cathedral.

Looking up at the 90 metre, multi-tiered spire.
